Abide
To abide isn't a one-time decision when we give our lives to Christ and get baptized. This is the beginning of a new life in Him. As we begin to live out this new life it doesn't take long before we realize we can't do it in our own strength. As Paul says in Philippians 4:13,
"We can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us."
His strength comes from abiding and learning to spend time with Jesus.
Early in my Christian life I was challenged to spend five minutes in God's Word every day. I could spend more time, but the challenge was for just five minutes a day. As I weighed this commitment, I prayed this prayer: "God, if by your Holy Spirit, you will remind me to read my Bible, I will make this commitment."
So, I have either read my Bible, memorized Scripture or reviewed memory verses every day since 1978. For 47 years the Holy Spirit has been faithful to remind me to read His Word. Through this wonderful daily habit, I learned to abide in Jesus. As a Christian, I am so grateful for this simple challenge to read daily for five minutes. It was a habit that changed my life and helped me in this wonderful discipline of abiding.
I don’t know how you are doing with abiding, but what if you committed to reading God’s Word for five minutes each day and allowed the Holy Spirit to remind you? He will be faithful to remind you if you will be faithful to obey!
Please Pray
Heavenly Father, if you will remind me by your Holy Spirit to read Your Word daily, I will receive this challenge. Amen.
